John Allen Wehmeyer

Sibley, Iowa John Wehmeyer, age 50 of Sibley, Iowa died Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, March 27th at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, with Father John Vakulskas as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be Thursday, March 26th from 2:00 " 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley with a rosary service at 4:00 PM and a vigil service at 7:30 PM. John Allen Wehmeyer was born in Sibley, Iowa to Virgil and Marlene Wehmeyer on July 26th 1958. John grew up in Sibley, Iowa and attended the Sibley Community School system and graduated in 1976. Later he attended Northwest Iowa Community College where he received a degree in Diesel Mechanics. He worked various jobs while attending school until he was hired by Wills Truck line as their mechanic. He was with them for 5 years. From there he was employed with Osceola County until 1999. In 1997 he started working for the Conveyor Company part time. In 1999 he began full time until November 2008. In February of 2009 he was hired by Demco Manufacturing of Boyden, Iowa. On December 10, 1982 John was united in marriage to Pamela L. Wallrich at St, Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, Iowa. From this union came three children Jodi, Greg, and Katie. Following their marriage they lived in Ashton for a year and later moved to an acreage north of Ashton where they resided for 19 years until the new Highway 60 development bought their property. In 2002 John, Pam and their children moved to Sibley. For many years John enjoyed watching his childrens sports activities and helping them with the many fair and school projects they came home with. He also took them swimming and fishing at the Ashton sand pits. John also had a passion for racing. He enjoyed the times he worked on Paul Veens sprint car and watching races on TV. He did not care who won as long as it was not Jeff Gordon, which was Gregs favorite driver. He also enjoyed home improvement projects around his house. He was willing to help anyone in need. Johns true passion was to ride his bike. He would ride every chance he could, no matter the distance. This past summer he completed a life long dream of his which was to ride in RAGBRAI. He started the ride by dipping his back tire in the Missouri and his front tire in the Mississippi. Surviving is his wife of 26 years, Pam Wehmeyer along with his three children Jodi of Minneapolis, MN; Greg of Cedar Falls, IA and Katie of Cedar Falls, IA. John is also survived by his mother Marlene Wehmeyer of Sibley. John was preceded in death by his father Virgil Wehmeyer and his mother and father-in-law Tony and Kathy Wallrich.
