DEATH NOTICE: Sibley, Iowa Doyle A. Miller, age 82 of Sibley, Iowa died Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab in Sibley. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 6th at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley, with Father Clair L. Boes as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery of Sibley, with military honors by the George E. Mudge American Legion Post 324 and the William F. Allard VFW Post 7373. Visitation will be from 2 until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 5th, with the family present from 6 until 8:00 P.M. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley, with rosary at 5:00 PM and Parish Wake Service at 7:00 PM. Doyle Alvin Miller was born on December 24, 1925, the son of Lester and Florence (Wilson) Miller in Sheldon, Iowa. He grew up in the Sheldon area and graduated from the Sheldon High School. He enlisted in the US Navy on December 17, 1943 and was later honorably discharged on May 2, 1946 with the rank of Fireman 1st Class. On June 4, 1947, Doyle was united in marriage to Ethel Wagner in Ashton, Iowa. Doyle worked as a postal clerk in Sheldon, then moved up to Postmaster and worked at the post office in Archer, IA for 6 ½ years, and then worked in Ocheyedan as their Postmaster for 9 years. Doyle was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW and NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees). Doyle enjoyed golfing and woodworking. Doyle is survived by his wife of sixty years, Ethel Miller of Sibley; two sons, Robert J. (wife Mary Beth) Miller of Lisle, IL and Thomas R. (wife Debbie) Miller of Lakewood, CO; four grandchildren; five brothers, Merlyn (wife Pat) Miller of Sheldon, IA, Roger (wife JoAnn) Miller of Rancho Kukomonga, CA, Archie (wife Jo) Miller of Diamond Bar, CA, Lester (wife MerryAnn) Miller of Fairfield, TX, and Jim (wife Ann) Miller of Algona, IA; one sister, Donna (husband Larry) Menke of Sioux City, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Ronald Miller.
