Ashton, IA Barbara Seivert, age 87 of Ashton, IA died Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 4th at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, with Father John Vakulskas as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be Sunday, April 3rd from 2 PM to 8 P.M. with family present from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, with a Rosary at 4 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:30 P.M. Jurrens Funeral Home is in charge of services. Barbara Seivert was born February 7th, 1924 in Ashton, IA. She was raised and educated in the Ashton area and attending and graduated from St. Josephs School in Ashton. On March 7, 1944, she was united in marriage to William Willie Henry Seivert, while Willie was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Virginia. After their marriage they returned To Ashton until they moved near Sanborn IA, where Willie worked for a farmer. In 1949, Barbara and Willie began farming for themselves southwest of Ashton. They lived on the farm for twenty-three years until Barbara and Willie built their new house in Ashton in 1972. Barbara was a very creative woman and loved to make things. She made and sold large ceramic pieces, and very much enjoyed crocheting, sewing and making dresses and shirts for her family. She was also a wonderful cook and made sure there was always plenty of food for everyone. She is survived by daughters, Anita (EJ) Poss of Omaha, NE and Janet (Kent) Lohrenz of Sheldon, IA; son, Daryl (Dana) Seivert of Newwell, IA; daughter-in-law, Monica Seivert of Farmington, MN; son-in-law, Terry Huisman of Boyden, IA; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other extended family members. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie Seivert; infant daughter, Barbara; son, Dennis Seivert; and daughter, Mary Huisman. In lieu of flowers, family wishes memorials be directed to Second Chance Rescue Center, 26707 466th Ave. Sioux Falls, SD 57106-6902.
