Ocheyedan, IA Marie Loerts age 84 of Ocheyedan, IA died Sunday November 11, 2012 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley with Reverend Terry Simm officiating. Burial will follow in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 13th from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Marie Loerts was born on June 10, 1928, the daughter of John and Frances (Popma) Schuller in Le Mars, IA. She was one of 8 growing up on a farm in Ireton, IA. She attended country school there through 8th grade. Marie moved to Sibley, IA at the age of 14, where she worked as a waitress for a time and then as a telephone operator for five years. During the time she worked as a telephone operator she met and dated Arthur Loerts for 5 years before marrying on April 2, 1951. Marie and Art farmed together near Ocheyedan, IA all their life. She loved farming, driving tractor and helping with the livestock. After fifty-seven years of marriage, Art passed away in May 2008. Marie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and attended the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. Marie loved to play cards, do puzzles, meet with the Sewing Club ladies and especially enjoyed her childrens and grandchildrens activities and sporting events. She attended every ballgame she possibly could. She enjoyed sitting outside whenever the weather permitted to take in the sun and visiting with neighbors. She very much loved her family. Marie is survived by three children and five grandchildren, Sandra Loerts of Mankato, MN, Gary (Cindy) Loerts of Worthington, MN and their children, Stacy Walters and Hope Loerts, Dennis (Amy) Loerts of Ocheyedan, IA and their children, Haley, Jordan and Jessica Loerts; one brother, Lawrence (Lorene) Schuller of Ireton, IA; two sisters, Shirley Van Iperen of Spirit Lake, IA and Muriel Roskam of Hospers, IA; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art; one brother, Wayne Schuller; three sisters, Vera Foos, Darlene Veldkamp and Leona Voorhees.
