Lester, IA Zelma Knoblock, age 89 of Lester, IA died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at the Sanford Hospital of Rock Rapids. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7th at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester. Burial will follow in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery at Lester. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 6th with the family present from 2:00 " 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Zelma Knoblock was born April 17, 1919 near West Bend, Iowa to William and Ida (Banwart) Metzger. She grew up and attended country school in the West Bend area. On February 21, 1940 she was united in marriage to Martin Knoblock at Emmetsburg, Iowa. Following their marriage they farmed near Alvord for forty years. Zelma enjoyed caring for her family, homemaking, gardening, and entertaining. In 1955 Martin and Zelma became converted and became members of the Apostolic Christian Church of Lester. She loved her God, her Lord, and her church. This was evident by her faithfulness and her devotion to attendance and worship. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren were a constant source of joy and happiness. In later years she enjoyed keeping her candy dish full for her guests. In 1980 Martin and Zelma retired and moved to Lester. In 1994 she moved to Lester Retirement Apartments where she resided until her death on February 3rd 2009 at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa at the age of 89 years. Surviving are one son Roger (Janet) Knoblock of Lester, IA; five daughters, Linda (Ralph) Knapp of Congerville, IL; LaVonne (Roger) Aberle of Morrill, KS; Gail (Jerome) Hartter of Rock Rapids, IA; Charlene (Henry) Messner, and Susan (Pete) VanWyhe of Lester, IA. Also surviving are Glen and Joyce Metzger of Lester and her special caregiver Diana Feucht of Inwood, IA; 33 grandchildren, 89 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren; one brother Arnold Metzger, and one sister Darlene Metzger of West Bend, IA. Preceding Zelma in death were her husband of 52 years, Martin; her parents; one son, Kenneth; a great grandson, Kory Meyer; three sisters, Elizabeth Nester; Marie Metzger; Iola Knobloch; and five brothers, Emil, Silas, Bernard, Wilmer, and Adrian Metzger.
