George, IA Irvin A. Meyer, age 84 of George, IA was called home to heaven on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Fellowship Village Nursing Home in Inwood, IA. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 6th, 2013 at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Boyden with Rev. Dan Hart officiating. Private family burial will take place prior to the service at St. Johns Cemetery. There will be a time of reception and fellowship at the church following the service on Wednesday, November 6th. In lieu of flowers family wishes memorials, to be directed at a later time. Irvin August Henry Meyer was born on July 14, 1929 on the family farm near George, IA to Hermann and Anna (Bahlke) Meyer. Irvin received his education at a country school near George and St. John parochial school. He began farming at the age of 15 due to his father becoming very ill. Irvin was a farmer his entire life, retiring in 2011. Irvin was drafted and reported for duty in 1953. He trained in Camp Chaffee, Arkansas before being deployed to Korea. Irvin was united in marriage to Lavonne Dammann on Februrary 16, 1955 when he returned from Korea. They farmed in the area for 11 years. In 1966 they moved to the family farm where Irvin grew up, which is now a 'Century Farm'. The couple was blessed with four children. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Boyden. He served on the church board for a time. He was a member of Jack Sauter Post 404. Irvin enjoyed woodworking but his love was his family and farming. Irvin went home to heaven on October 29, 2013 at Fellowship Village Nursing Home in Inwood, IA. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lavonne Meyer of George, IA; daughters, Carol (Kevin) Dirks of George, IA, Beverly (Eric) Raber of Millersburg, OH, and Janet (Randy) Schmith of Boyden, IA; son, Percy Meyer of George, IA; 12 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Grace (Jim) VanRennes of Sheldon, IA; brother, Vernon (Margie) Meyer of Aberdeen SD; sister-in-law, Gladys (Norm) Moret of Boyden, IA, Helen Dammann of Sheldon, IA, and Mary Dammann of George, IA. He was welcomed home by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Destiny Joy; sister, Darlene, parents-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
