Anna Sauers, age 101 died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at her residence in Larchwood, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 2nd at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with Fr. Jeff Schleisman as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, May 1st from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. Also there will be a Vigil service at 7:00 PM at the church Friday evening. Anna Susan Sauers was born December 9, 1907, the daughter of Nicholas and Anna (Endres) Sehr, on a farm near Inwood, Iowa. Anna graduated from the 8th grade at a country school near Inwood. Her mother died when she was 12 years old. At this time, she helped her father keep house for the family. The family moved to Larchwood, IA in 1924. On October 3, 1939, Anna was united in marriage to George Sauers. Together, they lived and farmed west of Larchwood and were blessed with four children. On December 28, 1966, Annas husband of 27 years, George died. Anna remained on the farm until she moved into Larchwood in 1972. Anna and several friends started the Larchwood Kitchen Band in 1974. She played the accordion. The group entertained at many nursing homes and were in several parades. She enjoyed playing Bingo, going to Flandreau and also played cards with friends. Through the last several years Anna remained active with various activities, along with her daily morning coffee and roll. Anna enjoyed spending time with her 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed their visits and always knew what each of them had going on in their lives. She never lost her motherly instincts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of her highlights was meeting Hilary Clinton in Sioux Falls, SD in 2008. This past Tuesday, April 28, 2009 Anna died suddenly at her home in Larchwood, IA at the age of 101. She is survived by her three sons, Don (Elaine) Sauers of Larchwood, IA, Bill (Cheryle) Sauers of Canton, SD and Denny (Diane) Sauers of Larchwood, IA; one daughter, Betty (Jerry) Miller of Buffalo, SD; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Anna Sehr; her husband, George Sauers; six brothers, Ed, Joe, Louie, Steve, Frank, and Bill; and one sister, Nettie Roemen.
