Notice: Rock Rapids, Iowa Helen Mangold, age 96 of Rock Rapids, IA, formerly of Ashland, NE died Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in George, IA. Services will be held on Thursday March 27, 2008 at 9:00 A.M. at the Jurrens Funeral Chapel in Rock Rapids with the Reverend George Clausen officiating. Burial will a 3:00 PM, Thursday, March 27th at the Ashland Cemetery in Ashland, NE. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday with family present from 6:30 " 7:30 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids. Helen M. Mangold was born October 14, 1911 on the family farm near Inwood, Iowa, the daughter of William F. and Kate (Finck) Klein. She attended country school near Lakewood Corner and graduated from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids. Helen moved near Omaha, NE to work as a nanny and met her husband to be, Kenneth Mangold. The couple married on September 29, 1940 and lived in Omaha, NE for several years before moving to Ashland, NE. Helen was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Omaha, serving with the Ladies Aid, Circle, Library and making of Greeting Cards. She loved flowers, gardening, sewing, crocheting, baking, windmills and birds. Helens husband, Kenneth died on November 12, 2001. Helen remained living in Ashland for a few years, then moved to Premier Estates in Rock Rapids, IA to be near her family. She remained there until 2006 when her health began to fail. She entered the Rock Rapids Health Centre and then entered the Good Samaritan Center in George, IA, where she died this past Monday, March 24, 2008 at the age of 96. She is survived by a son, Keith (Deb) Mangold of Ames, IA; granddaughter, Jodi; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Klein and Lea Klein; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Ed Ringler of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth Mangold; a granddaughter, Rochel; two sisters, Alvira Katt and Kathryn Klein; six brothers, Elmer Klein, Wilbur Klein, Glen Klein, Larry Klein, and Howard Klein; and special friend, Ann Ringler.
