Rock Rapids, IA Kathryn Newborg, age 99 of Rock Rapids, IA died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, IA. Kathryn Amanda Newborg was born March 12, 1913 in Rock Rapids, IA to George and Jennie (Buss) Eihausen. She was raised on the family farm south of Ellsworth and graduated from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids in 1932. She continued her education and received her Teaching Certificate in LeMars , IA. She taught elementary age children at a rural schoolhouse until 1948. On July 17, 1942 she was united in marriage to Dalbert Newborg in Rock Rapids. The couple made their home on the family farm southwest of Lester. She and Dalbert remained there until their retirement in 1981 at which time they moved to Rock Rapids. To this union three children were born. Kathryn was very active with the farming. Alongside her husband, she worked with the animals as well driving the tractors to put up hay and work the soil. She was fond of knitting and crotchet work but she especially enjoyed flower gardening. Kathryn lost her husband Dalbert on October 6, 1981 after over 39 years of marriage. She remained in their home in Rock Rapids until June of 2002 when she moved into Premier Estates. In December of 2004 she moved to the Rock Rapids Health Centre where last Saturday, December 15, 2012 she passed away at the age of 99. She will be greatly missed. Kathryn is survived by her children, Warren (Roxanne) Newborg of Lester, IA, Bruce (Rosanna) Newborg of Des Moines, IA, and Kae (Mohammad) Bahremand of Germany; grandchildren, April (Brian) Monen of Lester, IA and their son Wyatt; Ramin and Shirin Bahremand of Germany; special niece, Joan (Doug) Wenzel of Lester, IA; and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dalbert; siblings, Alice Huls, Marvin Eihausen, Bertha Weatherbee, Albert Eihausen, Rosemary Borman; and special nephew, Arlyn Huls.
