Evelyn Joan Claussen was born October 24, 1933 on the Claussen Century Homestead near Inwood, IA to Alfred and Jenny (Hendriks) Claussen. She graduated in 1951 from Inwood High School. On January 11, 1953, she was married to Rolland Viereck. Together they had six children and lived on a farm near Larchwood, IA. In 1975, she moved to Sioux Falls, SD and was married to Ellis Skiles on December 29, 1976. Evelyn will be remembered for her wit and sense of humor as well as her stubbornness and mama bear loyalty to her children. A contrast of sorts, she could be shy and self conscience yet had a quiet strength about her. Although she was particular about herself and her things and was forever a lady , she had numerous blonde moments. She possessed the ability to laugh at herself so we were blessed with an endless memory of laughter and quiet smiles. She loved spending time with her family, walking, playing cards, her condo friends and days spent with her Mahjong ladies. Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Jan (Greg) Koch of Sioux Falls, SD, Kim (Greg Wehrkamp) Sehr of Sioux Falls, SD, Lisa (Tony) Snyders , Nancy (Brian) Van Veldhuizen and daughter-in-law, Shari (Randall Holm) Viereck, all of Larchwood, IA; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 7 step-great grandchildren; sisters, Florence Menage of Rock Rapids, IA and Esther Soltes of N. Hollywood, CA; and brother, Ken (Joyce) Claussen of Rock Valley, IA; and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Jason and Keith Viereck; sisters, Anna Claussen and Joyce Coffey; and brother, Don Claussen.
