Doon, Iowa Charles W. Iwen, age 88 of Doon, IA died Thurs. Feb. 21st at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Feb. 23rd at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. George Clausen, officiating. Private burial will be held in the Hillside Cemetery at Doon, IA prior to memorial service. Visitation will be Friday. Feb. 22nd from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Charles William Iwen was born September 27, 1919, in Schleswig, IA, the son of William and LeMorn (Reinking) Iwen. He grew up on a farm near Schleswig, IA until age eleven when he moved to Nebraska in 1930 and then to the Doon area in 1934. In 1937 Charles graduated from Doon High School and on February 4, 1941 he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Nagel. Charles enlisted in the Navy for the next four years during WWII serving on the battleship, California. In 1945 he was honorable discharge and returned to his wife, Betty. The couple then moved to a farm near Doon where they farmed for the next twenty-two years before moving into Doon. He then worked for Supreme Pack in Sioux Center until retirement. Charles grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought a sparkle to his eyes. On March 8, 1984, Betty Lou died after 43 years of marriage. This past Thursday, February 21, 2008, Charles died at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids at the age of eighty-eight. Charles is survived by his three children, Robert (Doris) Iwen of Boyden, IA; Barrry (Jan) Iwen of Rock Rapids, IA; and Penny (Myron) Krull of Rock Rapids, IA; seven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Cynthia Lou; a brother, William and a sister, Yvonne Borman.
