Rock Rapids, IA Donald Jacobson, age 84 of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, January 23, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Family will receive guests one hour prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to the time of service at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. Donald E. Jacobson was born October 15, 1927 in Centerville, SD to Ole and Emma (Moe) Jacobson. At a young age Donald moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD and attended school there. He joined the United States Navy in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1946 after serving aboard ship as a fireman. Upon his return from the service, Donald went back to school and finished his education graduating from high school in 1950. That same year on April 17th he was united in marriage to Faith Van Hove in Pipestone, MN. To this union one daughter was born, Paula. Donald spent his working life as a driver salesman for bread companies and retired in 1983. Donald and Faith also owned and operated an antique shop in Sioux Falls called Cottage Oak. They enjoyed camping and motorcycling together as well as attending auctions and antique shows and were always on the lookout for items to place in their shop. After retirement, the family wintered in Arizona where they participated in antique shows. Donald, Faith and Paula moved to Rock Rapids in 1997. This past Monday, Donald passed away at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Faith Jacobson; daughter, Paula Jacobson of Rock Rapids; sisters, Dorothy (Bob) Harvey of Sioux Falls, SD, Olive (Tom) Olson of Newport Beach, CA; and brother, Merlan (Lillian) Jacobson of Long Beach, CA; and other extended family members. Donald was preceded in death by, his parents, Ole and Emma Jacobson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin and Margaret Jacobson, Alvin and Dorothy Jacobson; brothers, Howard Jacobson and Ernie Jacobson; sister, Margaret and her husband Buster Houck and sister, Bernice Jacobson.
