George, Iowa Carol Peters, age 81 of George, IA died Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Home in Waverly, IA. Memorial services will be 10:30AM Thursday, Aug. 11th at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church at George, IA with Rev. Henry Gower and Rev. Paul Fischer, officiating. Family will gather at 9:00 AM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George and at 9:30 AM process to Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George for burial. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 10th from 2:00 " 7:30 PM with the family present from 5:00 " 7:30 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Carol Audene Peters was born July 20, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Rev. August and Dena (Lay) Cramer. Carol attended Cedar Rapids Public Schools. At the age of 10, she moved with her parents to rural George, Iowa, where she attended a one room school house. She attended George HS and graduated in 1948. She married Delmer Peters on August 15, 1950, at Kamrar Presbyterian Church, Kamrar, Iowa. The couple lived in George until April 2009 when they moved to the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, Iowa. Following high school graduation, Carol attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. She began her teaching career that very fall in a one room country school, just two miles from where she was a student. Carol enjoyed 36 years of teaching school, the last 28 teaching mostly 3rd grade in George. In 1968, after going to summer sessions and night classes, she received her college degree from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. She and Delmer both retired in 1992. Carol was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, and many of her trips included her grandchildren. In their retirement years, Delmer and Carol enjoyed camping at Lake Okoboji and spending their winters in Arizona. In 1998, Carol was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She had surgery and treatments at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and was thankful to God for the recovery. Carol Audene Peters died at the age of 81 on Sunday, August 7, 2011, at Bartels Skilled Care and Rehabilitation Center, Waverly, Iowa, where she was recovering following several surgeries and a stroke that had occurred two months earlier. She is survived by a daughter Jan and husband Roger Wilcox of Waverly, Iowa; four grandchildren, Beau Wells and wife Gina of Boyden, Iowa, Adam, Aaron, and Abby Wilcox of Waverly, Iowa; great-granddaughters Emma, Brenna, and Shelby Wells of Boyden, Iowa; and a sister Bernice Beatty, of Atkins, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband Delmer, a daughter Susan Wells, her parents, three sisters Sarola Sally Gill, Gertrude Judy Adkins, Lillian Ruth Lowe, and one brother Marvin Cramer.
