Rock Rapids, IA Dora Mae Groen, age 80 of Rock Rapids, IA died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, Nov. 15th at the Bethel Reformed Church at rural Ellsworth, MN, with Rev. Dan Haggar officating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 14th from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Dora Mae Groen was born March 17, 1927 in Lyon County, Iowa, the daughter of John, Sr. and Katherine (Van Hoorn) Timmerman. She was raised in Midland Township in Lyon County and attended country school. Dora was united in marriage to Carl Groen on April 21, 1945 in Little Rock, Iowa. Together the couple lived and farmed most of their married life. Dora was not afraid to work, a lot of times she would work side by side with her husband, Carl on the farm. Dora was a life long member of the Bethel Reformed Church and taught Sunday school, served as custodian, and active with the womens guild. She enjoyed family get togethers during holidays, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. Doras family will remember her for her love and kindness towards others and also, for the work ethic she instilled in all of her children. On September 8, 2000, Doras husband Carl died after 55 years of marriage. On September 7, 2007 Dora was diagnosed with Brain Cancer and soon became a resident at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids. This past Tuesday, November 13, 2007 Dora died at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of 80. She is survived by her four children, Karen (and Michael) McDaniel of Worthington, MN, Ken (and Rhonda) Groen of Ellsworth, MN, Debra (and LaVearl) Timmer of Luverne, MN and David (and Bonnie) Groen of Kenneth, MN; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Nellie Pals of Fulda, MN; a brother, John (and Gusta) Timmerman of George, IA; a sister-in-law, Betty Timmerman of Rock Rapids, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Carl; an adopted son, Allen Dean Groen; a sister, Elizabeth Wiggins; and a brother, Wilbur Timmerman.
