Spirit Lake, IA Bernadette Bell age 91 of Spirit Lake, IA died Friday morning, August 13, 2010 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, IA. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Spirit Lake, IA with Fr. James R. Smith, celebrating. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 15th with the family present from 4:00 " 6:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. Rosary and a 6:00 p.m. Prayer service at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Bernadette A. Bell Bernie , daughter of Lionel and Mary (OKane) McCarty, was born In Sheldon, IA, September 30, 1918. She graduated from Sheldon High School and from American Institute of Business in Des Moines. On January 9, 1945, Bernie married Ed Krogman at St. Josephs Church in Hartley. They farmed near Ashton until Eds death on August 22, 1957. Their children are Mary Kay, Jim, and Nancy. Bernie worked in business at Starrits, Wolfs, St. Patricks School, and Wells Blue Bunny in Sheldon. September 12, 1972, Bernie married Harold Bell in Worthington, MN. They lived in Ocheyedan, Sheldon, and Sibley. Harold passed away February 14, 2007. Bernie sacrificed for family from youth through adulthood. A very quiet, private lady, Bernie loved the Sacred Heart of Jesus, her family, especially her grandchildren, her flowers and her Irish heritage. Bernie was a member of the Catholic Daughters of American and St. Marys Parish in Spirit Lake. Bernie is survived by her children: Mary Kay (Vernon) Lockman of Shelby, NE; Jim (Maya) Krogman of Urbandale, IA; and Nancy (Bill) Ochs of Casper, WY. Also, by sisters Delores Bryant of Milford, IA and Joan (Ken) Wacker of Albertville, MN and brother Vernon McCarty of Portland, OR; and sister-in-laws Ruth McCarty of Maple Lake, MN, LaVonne McCarty of Hartley, IA, and Joan McCarty of LeMars, IA; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. Bernie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Phil, James, John, Lionel, LeRoy, Ned, Rich, Clem, and Howard; and sisters Rosemary and Therese. The family of Bernadette Bell prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.
