Sanborn, Iowa Gladys Noethe, age 92 of Sibley, IA, formerly of Melvin, IA, died Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian burial will be 1:30 PM Tuesday, December 15h, 2009 at St. Cecilias Catholic Church in Sanborn, IA with Fr. Tim Hogan as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Patricks Cemetery in Sheldon, IA. Visitation will be Monday, December 14th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Gladys Lena Schwebach Noethe was born on December 3rd, 1917. She was the eighth of nine children born to Nicolas Schwebach and Anna Thorman Schwebach. Gladys was married to Lawrence Noethe on June 22, 1936 in Granville, IA in the Catholic Church. They farmed by Alton when they were first married and later bought a farm by Melvin where she lived until moving to Sibley. Her husband Lawrence died of a stroke on May 27, 1978 after they had been married 42 years. They had seven children, Alice, Monte, John, Bernice, Maryellen, Paula and Gail. Gladys attended country school and graduated from the 8th grade in 1933. She received awards for spelling contests and qualified to be on the state choir in 1931 and 1932. She spent much of her life working on her fathers farm and later with her husband on their farm along with raising her seven children. She later worked as a nurses aide at Prairie View nursing home in Sanborn until 1978. Gladys resided on her farm in Melvin until moving to Parkview Apts. in Sibley in December 2006 and became a resident of Country View Manor in December 2008. She enjoyed quilting; playing cards and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play football and basketball. She enjoyed teaching her grandkids to play solitaire and other games and also teaching them to cook. Gladys is survived by four children, son, Monte Noethe of Cherokee, IA; daughters, Bernice Bentz of Des Moines, Paula (Mike) Krieger of Sibley, IA; and Gail (Roger) Buchholtz of Sibley, IA; 23 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lawrence; daughterAlice Foreman; son Jack Noethe; daughter Mary Ellen Baughfman; 3 grandchildren; sons-in-law, LeRoy Foreman and Keith Bentz; brothers, Mac, John, and Clarence Schwebach; sisters, Rose Koob, Margaret Grady, Agnes, Grady Florence Schmith, and Anna Davis.
