NOTICE: Rock Rapids, Iowa Alice Kooiker, age 92 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday, September 20, 2007 at the Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids. Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Faith Baptist Church in Rock Rapids, with Pastor Jeff Poppinga officiating. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery rural George, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4-6 P.M., Sunday, September 23rd at the Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Alice was born August 7, 1915 in Perkins, Iowa, the daughter of Phillip and Fannie (Veldkamp) De Groot. She grew up in the rural Inwood area and attended country school where she could only speak dutch. On February 25, 1937 she was united in marriage to Gerrit J. Kooiker at her parents home at Inwood, IA. They made their home on a farm near Hull until 1940, when they moved to a farm south of Rock Rapids. Alice and Gerrit farmed and raised their family on this farm. In 1985, they moved into Alvord to retire. Alice enjoyed crocheting, making rugs, preparing meals for her family and their hired farm hands. On November 20, 2006 Alices husband, Gerrit died after 69 years of marriage. She is survived by four sons, Leroy and his wife, Gladys Kooiker of Rock Rapids; Roger and his wife, Janelle Kooiker of Rock Rapids; Glenn and his wife, Pam Kooiker of Omaha, NE; and David and his wife, Tammy Kooiker of Rock Rapids; along with eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Donald Kooiker of Rock Valley; and one sister-in-law, Viola (Peter J.) Van Driel of Rock Valley, IA. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother William and an infant sister; and two brothers-in-law, Ralph and Albert Kooiker.
