: Sibley, IA Emery A. Dreher, age 96 of Sibley, IA died Sunday, June 05, 2011 at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 8th at First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA, with Rev. Terry Simm and C.L.P. Brian Schafer co-officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 7th from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Emery A. Dreher was born on April 6, 1915 in Hague Township, southwest of Clark, South Dakota, the son of Fred and Anna (Thies) Dreher. He became a member of a country Lutheran Church near his birth place. He attended country school and graduated from 8th grade in 1930. Following his schooling he remained living with his parents, while working for various farmers in the area. In 1933 Emery moved to Iowa along with his friend Egbert Vietor. Emery worked for John Moets farm near Sibley. A year later he moved to the Fred Gross farm and worked there for three years. Then he moved to the Melba Dkystra farm for a short while, before moving to the Reinerd Ernst farm. On February 15, 1940 Emery was united in marriage to Carrie Klaassen at the First Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Sibley. Emery and Carrie farmed side by side for 54 years, retiring in 1994. Although Emery and Carrie did not have children of their own, they were blessed with many extended family. During the summers, Emery and Carrie would host their grandnieces and grandnephews, filling their weeks with farm work and Sunday church services. On November 14, 1996, Emerys wife Carrie died after 56 years of marriage. Emery remained on the farm until October of 2003. Emery did a lot of walking, although his eye sight was failing. So he decided to move to the Viola Home in Sibley, where he could be looked after a little easier. Emery enjoyed farming, and often said It was hard work, but a good life . Emery and Carrie always enjoyed spending time with children on the farm. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, serving as Trustee for seven years. In December of 2008, Emery moved to the Country View Manor in Sibley, where he remained until his death this past Sunday, June 5, 2011. He is survived by many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Shirley Dreher, Lois Lien and Ruby Dreher; and many other extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Dreher; sister, Ellen Klassen; four brothers, Earl, Robert, Carl and Lloyd Dreher; and a niece, Diann Hinrichs.
