Sibley, IA Effie Starkenburg, age 91 of Sibley, IA died Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the Sibley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sibley, IA. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 16th at the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley, IA, with Pastor Roger Bouwman officiating. Burial will take place prior to the memorial service at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Friday, November 15th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley. Effie Starkenburg, the sixth child of thirteen children of Harry W. and Hattie (Kramer) Elgersma was born near Bigelow, Minnesota on July 6, 1922. Effie lived her youth near the Sanborn, IA area and received her education at a country school and the Sanborn Christian School. Effie was united in marriage to Richard Starkenburg on October 11, 1944 at the home of Richards sister. Their lifetime was spent in the Sibley area. Effie was employed at Sibley Egg and Poultry, the Osceola County Cooperative Creamery and Associated Milk Producers, Inc. She retired in July of 1987, after 29 years of employment at AMPI. Effie was a member of the Sibley Christian Reformed Church. She will be remembered for her cooking and baking, her love of flowers and especially her love for her family. Grateful for having shared her life is her husband of 69 years, Richard Starkenburg of Sibley, IA; her two daughters, Marcia (Dan) Massa of Sibley, IA and Connie (Steve) Dallenbach of Worthington, MN; three grandchildren, Rick (Kristin) Massa of Glen Ellyn, IL, Josh Massa of Olathe, KS and Nicole Dallenbach of Worthington, MN; two great-grandchildren, Bennett and Olivia Massa of Glen Ellyn, IL; two brothers, John (Bev) Elgersma of Sanborn, IA and Ray (Phyllis) Elgersma of Sanborn, IA; one sister, June Van Dyke of Sanborn, IA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Effie was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bill, Sam and Jake; four sisters, Jennie, Jose, Tena and Margaret; and two infant sisters.
