Rock Rapids, Iowa Gary Schubert, age 76 of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Faith Baptist Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Jeff Poppinga officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Friday, November 15th from 4:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Gary Allan Schubert was born July 21, 1937 in Adrian, MN to August and Martha (Kruse) Schubert. He attended District 14 country school near Ellsworth, MN. He entered the United States Army in September of 1960 and took his basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. Gary was honorably discharged in May of 1961. On December 30, 1960 he was united in marriage at the First Baptist Church of George to Georgia Bloem. The couple began their lives together living in Aberdeen, MD before returning to Ellsworth. Gary worked for Niessink Implement and Hubbard Implement and then the Iowa D.O.T. as a mechanic. He retired from the D.O.T. after 23 years. Gary enjoyed helping others. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Rock Rapids and was a leader and bus driver for the Awana program. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a good listener. Gary enjoyed antiques, classic cars and threshing bees. This past Wednesday November 13th Gary passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of 76. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Georgia Schubert of Rock Rapids, IA; son, Doyle (Beth) Schubert; daughter, Tamra (David) Kooiker; son, Dean (Sara) Schubert; daughter Traci Powell; all of Rock Rapids, IA; Martin Powell of Texas; three grandchildren, Carson Schubert, Sierra Schubert and Chevy Schubert, all of Rock Rapids; brothers, Roger Schubert of Freemont, NE; Gene (Bonnie) Schubert of Kansas City, MO and Randy (Jeannie) Schubert of Shakopee, MN; sister, Norma Wassenaar of Hills, MN; and other extended family members. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother; brother, Lee Schubert; four infant grandchildren; sister-in-law, Cathy Schubert.
