Vickie Knobloch

Vickie Knobloch, age 82 of Rock Rapids, IA died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday June 3rd at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester. Burial will follow in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery at Lester. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 2nd from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Vickie (Harrison) Knobloch was born July 14, 1926 in Grays Harbor County Washington to Julio and Minnie (Doty) Harrison. In her early childhood she suffered with polio and after the loss of her parents at the age of eleven, Vickie was in foster homes. After graduation from high school in Aberdeen Washington she attended the College of Nursing in Olympia, Washington. In June of 1946 Vickie married Orvin Birkeland. After his discharge from the Navy they moved to Luverne, Minnesota where they raised five children. Ron and wife Kathy Birkeland of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Sandra and husband Ron Walters of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Stanley and wife Colleen Birkeland of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Cathy and husband David Busch of Loveland, Colorado and Brian Birkeland of Sabetha, Kansas. Orvin died November 3, 1972. Vickie married Gilbert Knobloch November 4, 1973. Vickie was mother to 13 step children, Rollyn and wife Vick Knobloch of Helena Montana, Tim and wife Maggie Knobloch of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Peggy Snyders of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Charles and wife Coralee Knobloch of Larchwood, Iowa, Barbara and husband Paul Lesmeister of Morris, Minnesota, Ann Weiss of LaCrosse Wisconsin, Kyle and wife Becky Knobloch of Inwood, Iowa, Phil and wife Bobbi Knobloch of Lafayette, Indiana, Jim and wife Marcy Knobloch of Elgin, Iowa, Lou Knobloch of Alvord, Iowa, Paul and wife Barb Knobloch of Dayton, Ohio, Matt and wife Maryann Knobloch of Cameron Park, California, Virginia and husband Ed Stoll of Winthrop, Minnesota. With Vickies five children and 13 step children there are 60 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandaughter. In the 27 years Vickie lived in Luverne, Minnesota, she worked several years in the hospital as a LPN Nurse. Taking leave from nursing she was cooking meals for management and office staff at I.B.P. for 11 years. In Vickies 35 years in Iowa she was night time Charge Nurse 11 years at the Rock Rapids Health Centre. On the eve of Gib and Vickies 35th Anniversary Vickie entered the Good Samaritan Center in George, Iowa. On May 13th she was transferred to Lyon Manor in Rock Rapids. Vickie was preceded in death by her husband Orvin, a grandson Scott Walters and Neil Birkeland.
