Sibley, Iowa Mary Skiver, age 86 of Sibley, IA died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 10, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Sibley with Pastor Doug Harding officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service at the St. Andrews Cemetery of Sibley. Family and friends are asked to gather at 10:00 a.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley and then travel to cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 30th, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Mary Lou (Whitworth) Skiver was born on June 3, 1923, the daughter of E. E. and Kathryn (Kelly) Whitworth in Dallas Center, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Dallas Center High School in 1940. Then she received her teaching certificate after finishing her course work from Central College in Pella, Iowa, from1940 to 1942. On March 21, 1945, Mary was united in marriage to Don Skiver in Dallas Center, Iowa. To this union one daughter, Kathy was born. Mary taught school at Paton, Iowa, Des Moines, Iowa and Sibley, Iowa. She was a member of P.E.O. and the United Methodist Church of Sibley. Mary founded and was an abstracter for The Title Company, Inc. in Sibley, Iowa, from 1967 to 1984. She then sold her company to her daughter, Kathy and son-in-law, Ted Schutte. She is survived by her one sister, Ruth (husband, O.B.) Thomas of Miami, FL; son-in-law, Ted Schutte of Sibley; granddaughter, Alison (husband, Emir) Hadzic of Stuttgart, Germany; grandson-in-law, Joel Van Gelder of Sibley; three great-grandsons, Teddy Van Gelder, and Haris and Kadin Hadzic; many nieces and nephews; and an army of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don in 1989; daughter, Kathy in 2003; and granddaughter, Mandy in 2006. All memorial money will go to the Skiver/Schutte Scholarship Fund.
