Rock Rapids, IA Louise LaFrenz, age 94 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, June 2nd at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Dave Christensen officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, June 1st from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Anna Louise LaFrenz was born on April 3, 1914 pm a farm near Inwood, Iowa, the daughter of Hans and Wilhelmina (Finck) Klutman. She graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1932. On October 31, 1936 she was united in marriage to Henry LaFrenz. Together they farmed near Larchwood, Valley Springs and Luverne. In 1969 she and Henry retired from farming and moved to Rock Rapids, IA, where she worked at the school as a cook for 8 years. On February 2, 1978 her husband died after 41 years of marriage. Louise was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and active with the ladies circle. She will be remembered for her beautiful garden and for rhubarb pie. Louise enjoyed family gatherings and would prepare special meals for each of her loved ones. She also enjoyed quilting and playing cards with family and other card clubs. She loved playing the piano, which she played almost every day until age 90. Louise is survived by her two daughters; Joann Smejdir of Omaha, NE and Lori (husband Sherwyn) Calsbeek of Hartford, SD; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Paul Klutman of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Henry LaFrenz; one son, Eugene LaFrenz; one sister Lois Klutman; and one son-in-law, Jim Smejdir.
