Ashton, Iowa Earl Kolbeck,age 80 of Ashton,Ia. died Friday, September 10th, 2010 at his home in Ashton. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 14th, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton with Fr. John Vakulskas and Fr. Tim Hogan celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be Monday, September 13th from 3:00-8:00p.m., with family present from 6:00-8:00p.m., at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton. There will be a rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 4:30p.m and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Earl Lou Kolbeck was born June 3, 1930 in Ashton, IA to Frank and Rose (Seivert) Kolbeck. He was raised and educated in Ashton graduating from St. Josephs Catholic School in 1948. He later attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and studied to become an Electrical Contractor which he spent his entire career practicing. From February 1952 to February 1954, Earl served in the United States Marine Corp. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal E-3. On August 28, 1957 he was united in marriage to Marcia Watne in Minneapolis. To this union 5 boys were born. Earl was a lifelong member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, belonged to William Ben Hoffman Post #290 American Legion of Ashton and was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Marys. He enjoyed bowling, attending his grandchildrens sporting events and school programs and coffee with the guys in the morning downtown. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marcia; sons, Mike (special friend Rhonda Fisher) Kolbeck of Ashton, IA, Ron (Judy) Kolbeck of Jefferson, IA, Jim (Evie) Kolbeck of Ashton, IA, Doug (Jean) Kolbeck of Fostoria, IA and Dan (Bonnie) Kolbeck of Greeley, CO; Grandchildren, Travis and Amy Kolbeck of Sheldon, IA Kyla Kolbeck of Denver, CO, Holly Kolbeck of Ft. Dodge, IA; Kathy and Clinton Kolbeck of Ashton, IA, Brittany Kolbeck of Fostoria, IA and Alex Kolbeck of Greeley, CO; Great Grandsons, Dreu of Sheldon, IA and Ethan Kolbeck of Ft. Dodge, IA; Sister, Mary Ann (Tom) Nilles of Ft. Dodge, IA; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Kolbeck) Seivert of Sheldon, IA, Susan (Leland) Halfpop of Goodell, IA, Phebe (Charles) Soma of Belmond, IA and Norma (Jerry) McNertney of Nevada, IA; Brothers-in-law, Jon Watne of Belmond, IA, Ted Watne of Belmond, IA and Craig (Connie) Watne of Belmond, IA; several nieces, nephews and cousins and other extended family members. Earl was preceded in death by, his parents, Frank and Rose; brother, Martin Kolbeck; sisters-in-law, Betty and Barb Watne; mother-in-law, Evelyn Watne; and father-in-law, John Watne.
