Wallace "Wally" Winter

Boyden, Iowa Wallace Wally Winter, age 80 of Boyden, IA died, April 9, 2007, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 12th at St. John Lutheran Church north of Boyden with Reverends, Kim and Trudy Peterson, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Boyden. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 11th, from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Boyden. Wallace Carroll Winter was born April 2, 1927, at Boyden, IA the son of William A. and Marie (Reyelts) Winter. Wally grew up on the family farm north of Boyden. He attended St. John Lutheran Parochial School and Boyden Public High School. Wally was united in marriage to Lena Mae Scholten on June 20, 1950, at the First Reformed Church in Boyden. They made their home on the farm north of Boyden where they raised their family. After forty-eight years of marriage, Lena Mae died. A few years later, Wally was united in marriage to Florence Heitritter on December 19, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. Wally was a lifelong farmer and truly loved the land. He served on the St. John Lutheran Cemetery board for forty-five years, he also served on many boards and committees in Boyden and Sioux County. Wally had a passion for John Deere tractors and machinery and restored several pieces of equipment. He loved playing practical jokes on his family and friends, he had a special place in his heart for family and church history, the outdoors and traveling, especially to the Black Hills. This past Monday, April 9, 2007, Wallace died unexpectedly at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center at the age of eighty. Wallace is survived by his wife, Florence Winter of Boyden, IA; his children, Deb (Ken) Woelber of Hull, IA; Susan (Dennis) Bonestroo of Boyden, IA; Daryl (special friend, Kathy) Winter of Shawnee, KS and Mary Beth (Scott) Johnsen of Boyden, IA; step children, Doug (Sandi) Heitritter of Rock Rapids, IA and Diane (Kary) Schroeder of Rock Rapids, IA; nineteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; one sister, Fern Krahling of George, IA; two brothers, Ken Winter of Sioux City, IA and Lloyd (Arles) Winter of Boyden, IA; brother-in-law, Vernon (Katie) Heitritter of Boyden, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marie; his wife, Lena Mae; two sisters; one brother; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. The Winter family request, memorials in lieu of flowers. Memorials will be directed to Wallys favorite organizations.
