George, Iowa Edwin Duin, age 82 of George, IA died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20th at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George with Rev. Paul Fischer, officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George prior to the memorial service. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Edwin R. Duin was born March 30, 1928, on a farm northeast of George, IA the son of Jennie (Christians) and Henry Duin. Ed grew up on the farm and attended country school east of George. Ed served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home to the farm at George. Ed was united in marriage to Marlys Harms on August 25, 1954 at Hope Reformed Church southwest of George. Ed and Marlys made their home on the family farm northeast of George. Ed farmed his whole life until they moved into George when he retired. Even after moving into town he still loved to help with farming and also loved to tinker around on the farm. Ed was a longtime member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church of George, where he had served as a deacon and a trustee. He also was a member of the Jack Sauter Post No. 404, American Legion in George. Ed had few pastimes besides farming, but he did enjoy fishing, bowling, playing cards and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. This past Saturday evening, October 16, 2010, Ed died at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids at the age of eighty-two. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Marlys of George; three children, Rosemary and her husband, Tim Vanden Brink of George; Donald and his wife, Char Duin of Sheldon, IA and Diane and her husband, Verlyn Bouma of George; five grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Patti Ubbinga of White Bear Lake, MN; Nathan Ubbinga of Anamosa, IA; Ashely Feucht of Inwood, IA and her special friend, Guthrie Clause of Inwood, IA; Steven Duin of Scotts Bluff, NE and Johnathon and his wife, Heather Duin of Sheldon, IA; along with seven great grandchildren and one sister, Gusta and her husband, John Timmerman of George. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Fred and Henry; and one sister, RoseAnn Wulfsen.
