Sibley, Iowa Richard Jordt, age 81 of Sibley, IA, died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Sibley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sibley, IA. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 22, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Sibley, IA with Rev. Shannon Pascual officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Family will receive guests at the church on Wednesday at the time of service. Richard Jordt was born May 19, 1931 at lake Benton, MN to Christian and Ethel (Eschendal) Jordt. At the age of 7 his mother moved south to Sibley, IA. He was raised by Ethel and Louis Koopman on a family farm northeast of Sibley. He received his education through his sophomore year. In 1952 he entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict and reached the rank of Corporal. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Dick worked for Booth & Olson Construction and Irving Jensen doing road construction. On January 5, 1980 Richard was married to Evelyn Van Duinkerken at the United Methodist Church in Worthington, MN. They lived and farmed northeast of Sibley and later worked for CEA Elevator in Sibley until his health began to fail. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sibley. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was known as a quiet and kind man. Dick enjoyed traveling with Evelyn around the world. He was always very active and had a strong work ethic. He will be greatly missed. Dick is survived by his wife Evelyn Jordt of Sibley, IA; his children, Michael Jordt of Altoona, IA; Dawn (Mike) Blochowitz of Sibley, IA; Jamaica Harper of Sibley, IA; and David Jordt of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Elizabeth Jordt, Shawn Harper, Nicole (Arthur) Eddy, Maggie Harper, Amber (Ethan) Voss, Leila Jordt; and great grandchild, Jantz Eddy; brother-in-law, Peter (Mary) Van Duinkerken of Worthington, MN; sisters-in-law, Katherine Vosberg and Mary Smith both of Worthington, MN and Irene Jasperson of Madison Lake, MN. He was preceded in death by his father, Christian Jordt; mother, Ethel Koopman; stepfather, Louis Koopman; and sister, Mavis Larson.
