Rock Rapids, IA Alan R. Huber, age 71 of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, April 2. 2010 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 8th at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, with Father Jeff Schleisman as celebrant. Memorials may be directed: Iowa Lions Eye Bank, 2346 Mormon Trek Boulevard, Iowa City, IA 52246-4368 Alan Robert Huber was born February 11, 1939 in Benton Harbor Michigan, the son of Arthur and Elsie (Suthard) Huber. As a young man he enlisted in U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Saratoga CVA 60 and then was stationed in Naples, Italy where he met and married his wife of 50 years, Maria Grazia Oliva. Together with their family, they continued on a military journey, which lead to his serving on the USS Kitty Hawk CVA 63 out of Coronado, CA. On August 29, 1975 Alan retired as a Chief Meteorologist from NAS Miramar in San Diego, CA. Upon retirement he returned to school and completed his Masters Degree in Business, becoming a Sales Manager for a home remodeling company. He also was involved in some acting and radio broadcasting. He then semi retired back to the Midwest to be closer to family. Alan was a very proud American, with a great passion for politics. He loved John Wayne and Ronald Regan, and was an avid Chargers Fan. He enjoyed listening to music, such as The Beatles, Ventures and Beach Boys. He enjoyed reading books and was also writing a book. He always had some big or little house project on his chalk board. He was an active member of the NRA and VFW. His family was the Love of his life and he will truly be missed by his loving wife Maria, his daughters, Anna (Mick)Edwards of Rock Rapids, IA, Debbie (Jeff) Murray of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandkids, Teresa (Nate) Robinson, Debbi (Eric) Selken , Steven (Michelle) Cole Jr, all of Rock Rapids, IA, Monique (Nicholas) Lupkes, Matthew Murray and Malinda Murray, all of Sioux Falls, SD; thirteen great-grand children; two brothers, James and Patrick Huber, both of California. Preceded in death by Parents, Arthur and Elsie Huber; two Brothers, Richard and John Huber; and one sister, Florence Haas.
