George, Iowa Aletha Vaselaar, age 100 of George, IA died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn, IA. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16th at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church of George with Rev. Paul Fischer and Rev. Dale Lint, officiating. Burial will follow in Lyon County First Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Roste Funeral Home of George. Aletha Grace (Bonk) Vaselaar was born October 15, 1906, on a farm east of George and 1 miles south of Zoar Presbyterian Church. When Aletha was only a few weeks old they moved to a farm east and north of George. Aletha attended Grant No. 4 country school near their family farm from kindergarten through the eighth grade. She then attended school in George and graduated from George High School in 1926. After high school, Aletha attended college in Cherokee, IA, an extension of Cedar Falls Teachers College, for three months and received a second grade teachers certificate. Aletha, taught rural school for three years. On February 14, 1929, Aletha was united in marriage to David Vaselaar at Zoar Presbyterian Church. They made their home on a farm that they rented from Davids parents. David and Aletha farmed together for many years. Aletha kept busy with many of the household tasks that went along with farming and raising a family. To this union were born two sons, David Deane and Dennis Dee. In November of 1962, Alethas husband, David died ending their marriage of thirty-three years. Aletha continued living on their farm and kept very busy and in 1969, Aletha moved into George. She was a member of the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church and the Dorcus Society. She served as the Synod of the West Synodical Secretary, was the Presbytery Secretary, and also on the church building committee. She taught Bible school and Sunday school and also was a member of the George Womans Club. Aletha became a resident of Prairie View Campus in 2003, where she died this past Thursday morning, June 14, 2007 at the age of one hundred. She is survived by her two sons, David and his wife, Ro Vaselaar of Anthem, AZ; and Dennis and his wife, Edna Vaselaar of Ashton, IA; along with seven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one sister, Mae Trei of Sheldon, IA; and several nieces and nephews. Aletha was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Fannie; her husband, David; brother, Eildert Bonk and sister, Bernice Klaassen.
