Rock Rapids, Iowa Mary Ann Wynia, age 67 of Rock Rapids, IA, died Tuesday, October 08, 2013, at her home near Rock Rapids. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Rock Valley, IA, with Reverend E. C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation will be Friday, October 11, 2013, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Forster Community Center in Rock Rapids. The Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lyon County Hospice or Netherlands Reformed Christian School. Mary Ann Wynia was born June 22, 1946, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of John and Sadie (Van Abbema) Hoogendoorn. She was raised on the family farm near Lester, IA, and attended Lester Community School. She graduated from West Lyon High School in 1964. Mary Ann was married to Albert Maassen on November 24, 1967, at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They lived and farmed near Fairview, SD. On May 3, 1983, Mary Anns husband Albert died after 15 years of marriage. On April 7, 1989, Mary Ann married Frank Wynia at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley, IA. Together they lived and farmed near Rock Rapids for many years. She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley, active as a volunteer at church and school. This past Tuesday, October 8, 2013, Mary Ann died at her home, with family by her side, at the age of 67. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Frank Wynia of Rock Rapids, IA; nine children, Margaret (Dale) Kollis of Inwood, IA; Curtis (Fonda) Maassen of Canton, SD; Sharon (Gaylon) Rozeboom of Rock Rapids, IA; Carl (Jill) Maassen of Doon, IA; Jana (Leland) Kaster of Hull, IA; Kevin (Andreah) Maassen of Boyden, IA; Joel (Brooke) Maassen of Brandon, SD; Nathan (Lora) Maassen of Doon, IA; and Laura (Ryan) Kearney of Sioux Falls, SD; seven step children, Deanna (John) Van Wingerden of Sunnyside, WA; Lyle (Marie) Wynia of Canton, SD; Fonda (Curtis) Maassen of Canton, SD; Mark (LeAnn) Wynia of Rock Rapids, IA; Michael (Tonia) Wynia of Boyden, IA; Rebecca (Chris) Van Der Brink of Sioux Center, IA; and Sharla (Aric) Kelderman of Inwood, IA; sixty-eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Vanden Toorn of Sioux Center, IA, and Sadie Schelling of Orange City, IA; two brothers, Ted Hoogendoorn of Rock Rapids, IA, and Alvin Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley, IA; and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sadie Hoogendoorn; her husband, Albert Maassen; three brothers, infant John Hoogendoorn, Gilbert Hoogendoorn and John Hoogendoorn; three sisters, Henrietta Davelaar, Joan Van Veldhuizen and Nellie Burnett; a step daughter-in-law, Sharon Wynia; and grand-daughter, Marissa Wynia.
