RUSHMORE, MINNESOTA Viola H. Drost, age 89 of Rushmore, MN died Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 26th, at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, with Reverend Gary Van Heukelom officiating. Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 25th from 2:00 " 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 PM at the First Reformed Church in Sibley. Viola Henrietta Drost was born on Janurary 14, 1918 in Orange City, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Dora (Borgman) Ver Steeg. On January 11, 1938, she was united in marriage to Gerrit Drost in Sibley, IA. They lived near Ocheyedan, IA then moved to Melvin, IA and in 1950 the couple moved to Rushmore, MN. Viola was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley where she taught Sunday school for twenty-nine years. She enjoyed cooking, mending, crocheting and fancywork. Viola also liked to write letters to her children and kept a daily diary on her calendar. She is survived by her eight children, Delores (husband Rodney) Groenwold of Lismore, MN, Sharon (husband Dennis) Wessels of Balaton, MN, Twyla (husband Larry) Rasmussen of Darien, IL, Marcia (husband Harvey) Van Ruler of Rushmore, MN, Linda (husband Steve) Verdoorn of Mooresville, NC, Garry (wife Virginia) Drost of Rushmore, MN, Verlis (wife Cindy) Drost of Poquoson, VA, and Duane (wife Lisa) Drost of Harris, IA; 23 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; one sister: Ivadelle Buysman of Sibley; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerrit in 2005, son Arvin Drost in 1960, granddaughter Angela Drost, two brothers Burt and Harvey Ver Steeg, and one sister Evelyn Wesslink.
