Emily R. Leuthold

NOTICE: Rock Rapids, IA Emily R. Leuthold , age 89 of Rock Rapids, IA, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Lyon Manor Nursing Home in Rock Rapids, IA. Services will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, IA. Burial will take place in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Lester, IA. Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday April 3 with family present at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall in Lester, IA. Emily R. Leuthold daughter of Emil and Pauline (Pauli) Schaer was born April 27, 1918, in Groveland, IL. She attended school in Groveland and on June 21st, 1941 she was united in marriage to Arthur Leuthold in Washington, IL. The newly wedded couple spent the first several years farming in Illinois and started their family there. In 1949 they moved to the Rock Rapids area and bought a farm northeast of town. In 1953 Emily became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. Over the years they were blessed with nine children. In 1953 the couple suffered the loss of little daughter Barbara Jean when she was only 2 1/2 years old. Emily and Art were so happy that the rest of their children chose to stay in the area and raise their own families. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Emily was a homemaker and she truly loved all of the tasks and duties she performed to raise a happy and healthy family. She was known to be a wonderful cook and found joy working in her vegetable and flower gardens which provided her family with much produce as well as beautiful flowers. Emily made each of her 31 grandchildren a hand-made afghan that will remain a wonderful reminder of their grandmothers love for them. She seemed to have endless patience, and her sense of humor will be greatly missed. In 1984 Art and Emily retired from farming and moved to Rock Rapids. In 2001 the couple moved to Premier Estates and in 2006 Emily went to live at the Lyon Manor Nursing Home in Rock Rapids where she died this past Tuesday April 1st, 2008, at the age of 89. Emily is survived by her husband of 66 years, Arthur Leuthold; daughters, Mary (Jerry) Ter Wee of Larchwood, IA, Carol (Bob) Molitor of Rock Rapids, IA, Martha (Jerry) Kracht of Rock Rapids, IA; sons, James (Betty) Leuthold of Magnolia, MN, Charles (Vicki) Leuthold of Ellsworth, MN, Carl (Deb) Leuthold of Ellsworth, MN, Douglas (Charlene) Leuthold of Ellsworth, MN, and Kenneth (ReNae) Leuthold of Ellsworth, MN; 31 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Feucht of Rock Rapids, IA and Bertha Koth of Peoria, IL; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Schlueter of Cornell, IL and Dorothy Schaer of Chilicothe, IL, and many nieces and nephews. Emily Leuthold was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Barbara Jean Leuthold; granddaughter, Michelle Marie Leuthold; two brothers, Norman Schaer and Alfred Schaer.
