Marie Hollander

George, Iowa Marie Hollander, age 93 of George, IA died Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at the George Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rick Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00- 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Roste Funeral Home of George. Marie (Sprock) Hollander was born January 13, 1914, on a farm in Lyon County near Edna, IA the daughter of Charles and Anne (Hilbrands) Sprock. Marie grew up on a farm near Edna area were she attended country school. On December 12, 1934, Marie was united in marriage to Herman Hollander at the Hope Reformed Church Parsonage southwest of George. They made their first home on a farm near Ashton, IA until 1940, when they moved to George. Herman died on May 22, 1969, after thirty-four years of marriage to Marie. She continued to live in their home in George. Marie enjoyed playing piano by ear, reading the newspaper, attending basketball games and playing pinochle. She was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George. On March 4, 2002, Marie became a resident of the George Good Samaritan Center in George where she died unexpectedly this past Tuesday morning, February 6, 2007 at the age of ninety-three. Marie is survived by her children, Carol and her husband, Floyd Ver Hoef of Rock Rapids, IA; Darold and his wife, Glenda Hollander of Hollister, MO; Janice Mahler of Aurora, CO; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Sena Dietz of George, IA; and Mary Sprock of George, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anne (Hilbrands) Sprock; her husband, Herman Hollander; two brothers, Henry "Hank" Sprock; and John Sprock; one brother-in-law, Jake Dietz; and one son-in-law, Paul Mahler.
