Sibley, IA Heinz Krieger, age 91 of Sibley, IA died Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Sibley Nursing & Rehab Center in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 20th at First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA, with Pastor Terry Simm and Pastor Brian Schafer officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Friday, August 19th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Heinz Harro Otto Krieger was born June 30, 1920 in Scharbeutz, Germany, the son of Otto and Jelkea (Janssen) Krieger. Heinz came with his mother and siblings to America at the age of five. His father had immigrated a year earlier. For four years they lived in Liberty, Missouri, and surrounding communities where his father died at the age of thirty-three. His mother married Gustav Kratzke from the Adrian, Minnesota area, where Heinz spent his youth. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of rural Rushmore, MN. He married Esther Bush of Ellsworth, MN on March 19, 1947 at the Zion Presbyterian Church. They lived in or near Adrian, George, Pipestone, Rushmore, Hanley falls, Beaver Creek and Sibley. To this union ten children were born. He became a member of the Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA. Heinz farmed or worked at silo building, steel building construction, city electric, and salesmanship. In 1967 Heinz attended Oklahoma Farriers College in Sperry, OK and horseshoeing became his career. He spent much of his time shoeing and training on race tracks in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Arizona. In Sibley Heinz was active in 4-H for twenty years, president of the Osceola County Extension Council for four years, taught shoeing in his own Tri-State Farriers School, wrote articles for national horse magazines, founded in Northwest Iowa Horse Show Association, and announced horse shows at the Clay County Fair for seven years. Heinz is survived by his children, Larry (wife Tanya) Krieger of Fayetteville, NC, Laureen (husband Richard) Engler of Sibley, IA, Douglas (wife Ann) Krieger of Fayetteville, NC, Michael (wife Paula) Krieger of Sibley, Alan (wife Mary) Krieger of Yuma, AZ, Sharon (husband Jeffrey) Maltas of Sibley, Jacqueline (husband Garold) Leathers of Sibley, Judith (husband Douglas) Lancaster of Round Rock, TX, Gregory (wife Charlene) Krieger of Sibley; thirty-five grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lisa Lindemann of Fulda, MN and Ruby (husband David) Ackermann of Lakefield, MN; and many other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 59 years, Esther Krieger; a son, Steven Krieger; and a brother, John Krieger.
