George Boyer

Sibley, Iowa George Boyer, age 86 of Sibley, IA died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Country View Manor Nursing Home in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Sibley with Pastor Doug Noonkester officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Friday, February 8th from 10:00 a.m. to time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church is Sibley. George Raymond Boyer was born April 13, 1926 in Richmond, Missouri to William and Rosa (Larkey) Boyer. He was raised on a farm and received his education in Richmond. In August of 1944 he was inducted into the United States Army. George served with the 47th Quartermaster Graves Registration Company and spent most of his time in the military in Europe, mainly Italy. He was discharged June 26, 1946 and returned to Richmond Missouri. On July 3, 1946 he was united in marriage to Anna Grace Forquer in El Reno, Oklahoma. To this union 3 children were born, William, Barbra and Susan. George and his young bride moved to Kansas City, Missouri where George worked for the Bemis Brothers Bag Co. where he operated a cylinder press imprinting lettering. The Bemis plant closed in 1965 and George then went to work for the Chase Bag Company. In 1972 the Kansas City Chase Bag plant was closed and a new building for the company was built in Sibley, Iowa. Chase Company offered George a promotion of supervisor to move to Sibley and later became the manager of the printing department. He retired from the company in 1988. He and Anna chose to remain in Sibley and have lived there ever since. George and Anna were members of the First Baptist Church in Sibley for many years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing croquet. He also enjoyed working on cars and generally tinkering around the house and garage. He was very handy and did all of his own maintenance and handy work. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. In December of 2008 George and Anna moved to the Nursing Home in Sibley due to failing health. This past Tuesday, February 5, 2013 George passed away at Country View Nursing Home in Sibley at the age of 86. He will be greatly missed. George is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Anna Boyer; his 3 children, William Raymond (Janie) Boyer of Kansas City, MO; Barbra Ann (Mike) Reynolds of Spencer, IA; and Susan Kay DeWaay of Sioux Center, IA; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rosa Boyer; sister, Irene Settle and grandson, Christopher Van Westen.
