Sibley, IA Alma Van Kley, age 85 of Sibley, IA died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, January 28th at First Reformed Church in Sibley, IA, with Reverend Bruce Wilterdink officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Sunday, January 27th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, with family present from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the First Reformed Church in Sibley. Alma Arlene Van Kley was born on December 30, 1927, the daughter of John and Anna (De Boer) Den Hartog in Hospers, IA. Alma grew up in Hospers and attended country school there. On September 23, 1953, she was united in marriage to Bert Van Kley in Hospers, IA. After their marriage Alma and Bert farmed southeast of Sibley and began their family of two sons and two daughters. In 1958 the family moved to their home in Allendorf, IA. They lived there until 1996, when they sold their home and moved into Sibley. Following Bert's death, Alma moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon IA. Because of failing health, Alma moved to the Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center in July of 2011 where she remained until her passing. Alma was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley, where she taught Sunday School and was very active in the choir and the ladies circle. She was an excellent cook and baker and a wonderful hostess. Alma always took pride in her appearance and looked forward to her weekly hair appointments. She enjoyed inviting friends over and especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alma is survived by three children, Stephen (Leanne) Van Kley of Sibley, IA, Faye (Brian) Pearce of Sumner, WA and Dawn (Jerry) Johnson of Owatonna, MN; daughter-in-law, Delta Van Kley of Hutchinson, MN; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; six siblings, Don (Audrey) Den Hartog, John (Ann) Den Hartog, Angie Zwagerman, Genevieve Van Kooten, Luella Grotenhuis and Wanda Felmlee; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bert; son, Lee; and four brothers, Fritz, Bob, Howard, Richard, and one sister, Wilma Dekker.
