Sibley, IA Paul T. Plehall age 84 of Sibley, IA died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Country View Manor Nursing Home in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, February 4, 2013 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley, with Father Timothy Hogan as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Sunday, February 3rd, 2013 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM with family present from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley. There will be a rosary at 5:00 PM and a Vigil service at 7:30 PM Sunday evening at Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley. Paul Thomas Plehall was born in St. Paul, MN on September 20, 1928, to Paul E. and Justine (Gosselin) Plehall. In 1932, his family moved to Worthington, MN, and then to Sibley, IA in 1936. Paul graduated from the Sibley High School in 1946. Later that year, he enlisted in the Iowa National Guard and served 7 years, being discharged as 2nd Lieutenant. In October of 1949, he met his wife to be, Joan Kruger. He married the love of his life on December 28, 1953. To this union four children were born, Jim, Patty, Sandy and David. Paul began working for the United States Postal Service in March of 1947, as a substitute clerk. In 1953, he became a full time city carrier; and in 1974 he became a rural carrier. Paul retired from the United States Postal Service on April 1, 2001, after 54 years. Pauls many hobbies included golfing, collecting coins, hunting, fishing, refinishing furniture, gardening and collecting carnival glassware. Paul was an avid golfer, something him and Joan greatly enjoyed doing together. They spent many summer days out on the golf course. In September of 1986, Paul got his first ever hole in one. Paul won the match play tournament in 1983, the city championship twice, 1979 and again in 1986; and league championship four different years, 1975, 1976, 1977, and 1980. Pauls greatest joy in life was his family, his wife of almost 60 years, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This past Tuesday, Paul passed away at Country View Manor in Sibley, at the age of 84. He will be greatly missed. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Joan Plehall; children, Jim (Bonnie) Plehall of Sibley; Patty (Jim) Terpstra of Sibley; Sandy (Terry) DeGraaf of Sanborn, IA; and David (Jen) Plehall of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Jason (Stacey) Noyes of Sibley; Megan (Jeremy) Wulf of Ocheyedan, IA; Erin Terpstra of San Diego, CA; Josh (Ashlee) Terpstra of Sibley; Cody (Ada) DeGraaf of Arnolds Park, IA; Tracy (Dean) Haspels of Hartley, IA; Hannah, Ella and Cara Plehall of Cedar Rapids, IA; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dolores Roberts of Casper, WY. He was preceded in death by his parents.
