Ashton, IA Lora Lynn Luitjens, age 19 of Ashton, IA died Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Zoar Presbyterian Church rural George, IA, with Reverend Dale Lint & Reverend Dr. David Ullom officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilman Township Cemetery of Ashton. Visitation will be Thursday, October 28th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton. Lora Lynn Luitjens was born on January 7, 1991 to Leslie and Norma (Postma) Luitjens in Worthington, MN. She lived with her parents and brother, Loren near Ashton her entire life. She attended and graduated from Sibley-Ocheyedan High School. She was a football and basketball cheerleader for several years. Lora was pursuing a degree in agriculture at Northwest Community College in Sheldon, IA. She was a member of the Zoar Presbyterian Church of rural George, IA, where she attended Sunday school and was involved in Young Peoples. She was a nine year active member of the 4-H club and was still a member of the FFA. Lora loved showing her Brown Swiss dairy at any Fair she could get to, especially at the Clay County Fair, since she was the four generation to show there. She proved it by winning super showmanship at her Osceola County Fair in 2009 and was overall top showman at the AK-SAR-BEN in 2005. She was one of the top five for showmanship at the Iowa State Fair. Lora loved being in FFA. She was a historian and worked hard at bringing the book up to date. She was a Star Green Hand and a Star Chapter Farmer. In 2009, she got her FFA degree. She was a Star finalist and a second place winner in her diversified livestock production at the state level in FFA. Lora was working on her American degree in FFA. Last fall she helped part-time at the Ashton elevator. She loved meeting and visiting with all the area farmers. She was planning and excited about working there again this fall but was unable to. Lora is survived by her parents, Leslie and Norma Luitjens; brother, Loren and his special friend Heather Rollefson; two grandmas, Maggie Luitjens and Ann Postma; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her two grandpas, Arnold Shorty Luitjens and Otto Postma; and her uncle, Larry Postma.
