Lowell Delphin Sjogren

December 5, 1932 — August 21, 2012

Sibley, Iowa Lowell Sjogren, age 79 of Sibley, IA died Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be 9:30 AM, Saturday, August 25th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, IA, with Reverend James Berka officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, with military honors by the George E. Mudge American Legion Post No. 324 and the William F. Allard VFW Post No. 7373 of Sibley. Visitation will be Friday, August 24th from 2-8 PM with the family present from 6-8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Lowell Delphin Sjogren was born on December 5, 1932 in New Ulm, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Alice (Lundgren) Sjogren. Lowell attended District 57 country school in Minnesota through the eighth grade. Lowell was confirmed in 1946 at the Clear Lake Lutheran Church. He attended Gibbon High School in Gibbon, Minnesota and graduated in 1950. After graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 1953 and served seventeen months in Germany before being honorably discharged in March of 1955, with the rank of Cpl. Lowell then decided to go back to school and attended SDSU (South Dakota State University) and graduated in 1959. He worked for USDA Dairy Products from 1959 until 1989. During that time of employment he met Lola Jean Anderson and they were married on June 19, 1966 in Spencer, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Charlene and Charles. Lowell was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on the council and was a faithful usher for funerals for many years. He was a member of Chordmasters in Sheldon, the School board and the Library board in Sibley. He was a former member of the Kiwanis in Sibley and was awarded the Legion of Honor Award for twenty-five years of service. Lowell was also a longtime active member of the George E. Mudge American Legion Post No. 324 and the William F. Allard VFW Post No. 7373 of Sibley. He enjoyed golfing, reading and spending time with his friends and family. Lowell is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Lola Sjogren of Sibley, IA; two children, Charlene (Tom) Platt of Ashton, IA and Charles (Robin) Sjogren of Brandon, SD; four grandchildren, Holden Sjogren, Zoey Sjogren, Dylan Platt and Brooke Platt; one brother, Arden (Carol) Sjogren of Bismarck, ND; and many nieces and nephews and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.
