George, IA Robert "Bob" Thompson, age 86 of George, IA died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA. Memorial service was held 11:00 AM, Friday, October 18th at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA. Inurnment will take place 10:00 AM Saturday October 10, 2015 at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA. with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Jack Sauter Post No. 404 American Legion. Robert Glenn Thompson was born on November 22, 1926, the son of Melvin and Margaret (Glenn) Thompson in Parker, SD. He attended school in Parker, SD and later graduated there. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1945 to 1946 and was a member of the C-47 Club. Following his service in the Army he attended Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, SD, where he received his BA degree and played football. He then attended the University of South Dakota, where he received his Masters degree. On June 1, 1948, Bob was united in marriage to Norine Cook in Marion, SD. Bobs first teaching position was at Peever, SD on an Indian Reservation. He then served as a Superintendent in White, SD for three years and Ramona, SD for three years. Bob and his wife then moved to George, IA where he was employed with the George Community School as a High School Principal for twenty-five years. As a child Bob was very active in Boy Scouts and later attained Eagle Scout. Bob faithfully attended Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George and taught Sunday school there for many years. He loved to golf, watch sports on TV and followed most of the sporting events in George throughout the years. He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Bob (wife, Linda) Thompson of Parker, CO; three grandchildren, Michael Thompson of Aurora, CO, Kimberly (James) Collins, and their daughter Kaylee of Colorado Spring, CO and Dustin (wife, Megan) Thompson of Minneapolis, MN; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norine Thompson; son, Keith Thompson; his parents; one sister and five half brothers and sisters.
