Little Rock, IA Mavis Jurrens, age 64 of Little Rock, IA died Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, January 5th at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, IA, with Rev. Brian Hellenga officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock. Visitation will be Sunday, January 4th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Mavis Carol Jurrens was born August 11, 1944 in Sibley, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Beulah (Herding) Buss. She was raised on the family farm north west of Little Rock and attended country school. She and her family lived briefly in Hadley, MN before returning to Little Rock, where she graduated in 1962 from Little Rock High School. Mavis was united in marriage on March 22, 1963 to Fred Hans Jurrens. Together they lived and farmed south of Little Rock. Mavis worked at various places such as Campbells Soup in Worthington, MN, K-Products in Rock Rapids, IA and Exopack in Sibley, IA. She retired from working in August of 2006. Mavis was a member of Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock. She enjoyed camping, watching cooking shows and soap operas. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and loved having company drop by her home to visit. Maviss family will remember her as a loving and caring person who always made time for everyone. This past Thursday, January 1, 2009 Mavis unexpectedly died at the Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 64. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Fred Hans Jurrens of Little Rock, IA; two daughters, Shelley (Scott) Klooster of Adrian, MN and Sonya (John Gilgen) Jurrens of Little Rock, IA; three sons, Shane (Tracy) Jurrens, Shaun Jurrens and Seth Jurrens, all of Little Rock, IA; ten grandchildren, Shea, Shannon, Lindsay, Haley, Brayden, Courtney, Brooklyn, Taylor, Shelby and Hayden; one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie; three sisters, JoAnn (Richard) Kruger, Gloria Jean (Lynn) Wills, both of Sibley, IA and Susie (Harry Jr.) Wiertzema of Little Rock, IA; one brother, LeRoy (Phyllis) Buss of Little Rock, IA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Buss; mother, Beulah Buss-Kruse; step-father, Richard Kruse; an infant daughter, Sherri Kay Jurrens; and son, Scott Jurrens.
