Sibley, Iowa James Faurot age 93 of Sibley, IA died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 20th at the United Methodist Church in Sibley, with Pastor Shannon Pascual officiating. Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the church. Memorial may be directed to the United Methodist Church of Sibley. James Lyle Faurot was born November 20, 1920, on a farm in Faulk County, South Dakota, the son of John Calvin and Clara Anna (Geese) Faurot. In the fall of 1936, he went to live with his uncle and aunt in Sharpsburg, IA, where he completed his high school education. After graduation, he worked for a short time in San Diego, CA, before enlisting in the U.S. Naval Reserve in June of 1942. During World War II, he served his tour of duty in the South Pacific Theatre, in the Naval Air Force. He received his Honorable Discharge in December of 1945, attaining the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate 1st Class. On January 20, 1946, he was united in marriage to Geneva M. Holmes at Sharpsburg, IA. After one year of Commercial School in Des Moines, the couple came to live in Sibley, IA. In February of 1947, Jim was employed by the Osceola Electric Cooperative, Inc., where he worked until his retirement in February of 1983. He retired as Manager of the Cooperative. During his life in Sibley, he was a member of the United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion, and Sibley Rotary Club. He also served on the Sibley City Council from 1964 to 1969. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling and being outdoors. Jim felt very blessed to have spent his life with Geneva and the many trips they shared together. On June 23, 2009 Jamess wife, Geneva died after 63 years of marriage. He remained living at his home in Sibley and continued his participation with various community activities. On April 21, 2013, Jim entered Sibley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where he lived until this past Tuesday, May 13th when he died at Osceola Community Hospital, at the age of 93. He is survived by one brother, Bill C. Faurot of Salem, OR; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, John C. and Clara A. Faurot; loving wife, Geneva M. Faurot; three sisters, Marie LaRue, Irene Hutchens and Lois Hessenflow; and two brothers, Owen Faurot and John Cal C. Faurot.
