Hills, MN Harlan Sundem, age 58 of St. Paul, MN died Saturday, February 3, 2007 at his home. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN with Rev. Lowell Berg officiating. Burial will take place prior to the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Hills, MN, with military honors by the Hills American Legion Post 399. Harlan Harlie Sundem was born March 7, 1948 to Elmer and Palma (Olson) Sundem in Sioux Falls South Dakota. He graduated Magna Cume Laud from Augustana in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He received his law degree from William Mitchell, St. Paul, MN. Harlan spent many years practicing Law. Harlan was also a veteran of the Marine Reserves. Harlan was an avid baseball fan and spent many hours rooting for his favorite team, the Minnesota Twins. He was fond of Minnesota Public Radio and walking outdoors. One of his favorite activities was to enjoy a long walk in nature while wearing his headphones and listening to the radio. Harlan particularly enjoyed deep talks with friends concerning the areas of history and politics. But overshadowing those interests were his grandchildren. He loved being around and playing with Victoria and Madison. Harlan was survived by his mother, Palma Sundem of Hills MN; his daughter, Tami (Terry) Smith of Fargo ND; grandchildren, Victoria Smith and Madison Smith of Fargo ND; one brother, Jeff Sundem of Minneapolis MN; and many beloved extended family. Harlan was preceded in death by his father, Elmer; and his sister, Carol Sundem. Memorials will be directed to Minnesota Public Radio in honor of Harlan Sundem.
