Ashton, Iowa John May, age 97 of Sibley, IA, formerly of Ashton, IA died Monday, June 25, 2012 at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 30th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, with Fr. John Vakulskas as celebrant. Visitation will be Friday, June 29th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton. There will be a Rosary at 4:00 PM and a Vigil service at 7:30 PM Friday evening. John Bernard May was born on August 26, 1914 in rural Ashton. He was the son of Servatizus and Mary (Johannes) May. John attended St. John attended St. Joseph's in Ashton, the teachers were the Sisters of St. Francis. He married Faye E. Dilly on April 17, 1940 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton and the marriage was performed by Msr. E. J. Neppel. After marriage they farmed N.W. of Ashton for thirty years. John was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and served on the A.S.C.S. committee and was township chairman for many years. He also served on the advisory board for senior citizens. John and Faye spent twenty four years wintering in the Rio-Grande Valley in southern Texas. John is survived by his wife of seventy-two years, Faye May of George, IA; daughter, Donna (David) Young of Mission, TX; daughter-in-law, Gail (Loren) May Klassen of Windom, MN; three grandchildren, Steven Young, Heather and Hans May; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceding John in death was his son, John E. May; grandson, Mike T. Young and four siblings, Clara Platt, Mike May, Elizabeth Imhoff and Bernadette Dekker.
