Wayne H. Stubbe

Rock Rapids, IA Wayne H. Stubbe, age 86 of Rock Rapids, IA died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday May 9th, 2014 at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Thursday May 8th, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA. Wayne Henry Stubbe was born February 22, 1928 at the family farm near Ellsworth, MN, the son of Jerry and Ann (Werkman) Stubbe. He was raised on the family farm near Ellsworth and attended country school there thru the 8th grade. In his youth Wayne worked for local farmers and on threshing crews in the summer. He later started working at the Coop Oil Company in Rock Rapids, IA. On October 28, 1949 he married the love of his life Audrey Arends at the Congregational Church in Ellsworth, MN. After getting married the young couple made their home in Rock Rapids, IA. While in Rock Rapids, Wayne worked at Quaker Oats which later became Cargill Inc., as a salesman from 1949 until 1980 when he and Audrey were asked to move to Royal, IA where he would be the head salesman at the Cargill Elevator there. He continued to work at Royal until 1991 when at the age of 62 he retired. Wayne and Audrey then moved back to Rock Rapids in order to be closer to their family. Wayne enjoyed doing many things including fishing, bowling, listening to music and of course going dancing with his wife. They attended many dances and were often complemented on how great they danced together. Wayne also loved watching his children and grandchildren in any of the events in which they participated in. He also loved making small wood items for his family to have. Once Audrey passed he spent many a morning at Sunshine for coffee sharing any news he had about his family. In March of 2012 Wayne had to be moved into the Lyon Manner Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Rapids, IA where he then made his home for the past two years. He loved the help there and always had to make sure he had chocolate for them. He had to give up many things when he moved in there but he was able to keep his pride and joy which was his Bose Radio which he always had playing as you came upon his room in the nursing home. His family will always remember him for his sense of humor, his great love of family, his love of music and his great work ethic. Wayne and Audrey were both members of the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, where Wayne served for many years as an usher. Wayne is survived by his children, Greg Stubbe and wife Liz of Rock Rapids, IA, Dave Stubbe and wife Linda of Oakview, CA, Larry Stubbe and wife Betsy of Rock Rapids, IA, and Lynette Wagenaar and husband Kevin of Little Rock, IA. He also leaves to cherish his memory 11 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Reck of Wentworth, SD; one brother-in-law, Harold Arends and wife Shirley of Marshalltown, IA; brothers, Ron Stubbe and wife Jan of Gretna, NE, Robert Stubbe & wife Sharon of Papillion, NE and Jerry Stubbe and wife Tara of Worthing, SD; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Audrey; son, Mike; sister, Shirley Van Meeteren; brothers, Henry Wayne and Marvin Jerry.
