Ritter, Iowa Edith K. Hassebroek, age 105 of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Ritter, IA died Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Dow-Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 16th, 2008 at the Ashton Bible Church in Ashton, IA with Pastor Jim Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until the hour of service time on Saturday August 16th, 2008 at the Ashton Bible Church in Ashton, IA. Edith K. Hassebroek was born February 22, 1903 to August and Kathryn (Cordes) Pomrenke in Ashton, Iowa. She was raised and received her education in Ashton. Edith was united in marriage September 10, 1921 to Roy Hassebroek in Worthington, Minnesota. To this union four children were born, Marvin, Dorothy, Derald, and Roy Jr. Edith helped her husband operate his corn shelling and trucking business in the Ashton and Ritter areas for many years. She later worked in the housekeeping department of the Sheldon Hospital and was a Tupperware hostess. Her family and friends were very important to her. Edith loved them dearly and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also, her friends were a big part of her life. Edith enjoyed gardening (both indoors and out), playing games with family and friends, quilting, and sewing. She loved to bake and entertain family and friends. Until the time of her death, she was reading the daily newspaper from cover to cover. This past Thursday Edith passed away at the age of 105. Edith is survived by seven grandchildren, Mark (Sue) Hassebroek of Brewster, MN, Merle Hassebroek of Worthington, MN, Marvin Eich of Murrieta, CA, Jerry (Ricky) Eich of Sparks, NV, Junia (Joel) Punt of Orange City, IA, Janet (Scott) Guthmiller of Chapel Hill, NC, Jeanne (Trent) Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Bill, Fred, George, Henry, and August; five sisters, Tracey Johnson, Minnie Ackerman, Clara Pomrenke, Emma Boneschans, and Rose Monkemeier; her husband Roy Hassebroek; sons, Marvin, Derald, Roy Jr. and daughter, Dorothy; and an infant grandson.
