Larchwood, IA Carl Dieters, age 89 of Larchwood, IA died Friday, August 29, 2008, at his residence in Larchwood, IA. Services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, Sept. 2nd at Grandview Covenant Church rural Larchwood, IA, with Rev. Penny Nance officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Covenant Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 1st from 4 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Grandview Covenant Church in Larchwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Grandview Covenant Church or Granite Threshing Bee. Carl was born November 28, 1918, to Karel and Affina (Van Dyke) Dieters on the family farm south of Inwood. During his childhood, he lived with parents at their rural home near Larchwood. Carl attended country school west of Larchwood and Larchwood High School. On September 4, 1948, he married the love of his life, Tracy Van Beek in Sioux Falls, S.D. Their union was blessed with eight children, two sons and six daughters. Carl was actively engaged in farming from the early 1930s until his death. In the middle of the depression Carl, his brother and his dad farmed together and expanded their operation. Carl and his wife Tracy also began a trucking operation in 1940. They had a fleet of five trucks and taught all of their children to drive truck as well. In 1963 Carl and Tracy purchased their farm on the banks of the Sioux River. He retired from the trucking business in 1985. Carl semi-retired from farming in 2005 but because of his love for farming, he felt the need to still be involved. Thanks to a very special nephew, Karl Dieters, he was able to continue his lifelong passion. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 60 years, Tracy, their children Jim, Carol (Ron) McDaniel, Sharen (Doug) Harms, Karen (Vic) Heyden, Evelyn (Duane) Te Grotenhuis, Susan (Brian) Carr, Sandra Grimmius and Glen (Chris). Also, surviving are 25 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, one sister May Reader and many other relatives and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and four brothers.
