Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 12th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Erwin C. Heeren was born on January 4, 1928 on the family farm near Sibley, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Marie (Runge) Heeren. At age 16 he moved to his grandma's farm near George, IA. Erwin went to country school where he completed the 8th grade. His father then passed away so he left school to help out on the family farm. Erwin and his mother became partners in running the farm until her retirement. Then Erwin took over running the farm. He bought it in 1972 and kept it running until 1990 when he retired. Erwin enjoyed traveling by car to the Black Hills and then on to Yellowstone National Park. He also drove to California to visit his aunt and uncle. After his retirement, Erwin remained on the farm until he moved to Prairie View in April of 2008. For recreation he loved to watch his favorite team, the Minnesota Twins, play. He loved to bowl and he bowled on three different bowling leagues. His average game score was 170. As his health gradually began to fade he remained at Prairie View in Sanborn. Erwin was thankful for the care he received from the staff at Prairie View and how kind they were to him. Erwin is survived by four nieces, Janice Ewert, Carla (John) Caraconcea, both of Sanborn, IA, Marilyn (Charles) Anderson of Webb, IA and Ronda (Art) Laubach of Hartley, IA; great nieces and nephews, Amy Ewert of Garner, IA, Benjamin Goldhorn of Sanborn, IA, Matthew Anderson of Webb, IA and Brianna Laubach of Hartley, IA; and many other extended family. Erwin is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marie Heeren; one sister and her husband Lovella and Ben Goldhorn; and one nephew, Bryant Ewert.
