GEORGE, IA Fred Vust age 89 of Sioux Falls, SD died Monday evening, August 31, 2009 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 at the Jurrens Funeral Home in George with Rev. Randy Tweeten and Rev. Bryan Anderson, officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Fred John Vust was born January 19, 1920 the son of Lucas and Jennie (Reemtsma) Vust in Lyon County, Iowa. He attended country school at Elgin #4. Fred worked for various farmers before beginning to farm for himself in 1943. In 1953, he moved to Arkansas, attending Ozark Bible Institute and working on the farm at the college. In 1963, he moved back to Northwest Iowa, and worked at various jobs. He then moved to Sioux Falls, where he worked at Hassenstein Steel Company until retirement. During his retirement, he did much volunteer work. He helped at Meals on Wheels, the Banquet, Union Gospel Mission and helped people get to various appointments for business or medical reasons. Fred was saved at an early age and was baptized at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, Iowa. While living in Sioux Falls, he attended Central Baptist Church. He loved the Lord; loved to read His Word and study it. In early 2006, he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center at 301 2nd Street in Sioux Falls. Fred passed away on August 31, 2009 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He is survived by a sister, Fern Popkes of Sibley, Iowa; two brothers, Louis and his wife, Joanne Vust of Little Rock, Iowa; and Walter and his wife, Margaret Vust of Little Rock, Iowa; brother-in-law, Ervin Backer of Sibley, Iowa; and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jake; sisters, Mary Klaassen and Ruth Backer; and brother-in-law, Lyle Popkes.
