Worthington, MN Dale Hohensee, age 82 of Worthington, MN died Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, MN. Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Reverend Bruce Carlson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ransom Township Cemetery rural Rushmore, MN, with full Military Honors. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13th, with family present from 3-8 P.M. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley, IA. Dale Otto Hohensee was born on April 21, 1928 at Bigelow to Otto and Marie (Fenske) Hohensee. He attended school at Bigelow, MN and did a lot of herding and tended cattle to grazing on nearby ditches and hay land. He was united in marriage to Sharlene Luxen on February 20, 1949 and worked for various farmers before being drafted into the army on February 15, 1952. He served 17 months in Korea and spent those months on the DMZ line working with explosives and experienced many hardships during the winter. He was discharged on November 19, 1953 at Camp Carson, Colorado. After working eight years for Harold Wass on the farm, Dale and Sharlene moved to a farm north of Sibley for two years before moving to their present farm east of Bigelow. In 1978 he became a member of the 47th Infantry Division in Worthington and trained guard members on various weapons and also worked with the National Guard at their summer training at Camp Ripley and Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. Dale received many special awards such as Dedicated Service from the 47th Viking Infantry Division, Distinguished Recruiter for ten enlistments and the Outstanding National Guardsman from the 2nd District American Legion in 1985. Dale enjoyed farming, camping, hunting, and keeping his machinery clean. Dale is survived by his wife of over sixty-two years, Sharlene Hohensee of Worthington, MN; 3 children, Steven (Carmen) Hohensee of Worthington, MN, Paula (Jason) Behrens of Bigelow, MN and Paul (Kris) Hohensee of Worthington, MN; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Briana) Behrens, Jackie Hohensee, Kyle Hohensee, Heather (Jacob) Hummel, Ethan Hohensee, Stephanie Behrens, Ian Fleace and Owen Hohensee; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and eight sisters and his grandparents.
